Australian Teams Competition – grass shoots are sprouting!
Kudos to Victorians for starting the discussion on the must needed “Australian Teams Competition”.
Leadership needs to come here from the top!
Please, please get Australian Chess into the 20th century. Yes, I know, small steps first!
Amateur to Professional is a huge step!
We need to change over from a weekender mentality to European Chess mentality.
Use the 4 Grand Slam events that we have for venue, dates, equipment etc.
All of these details are already worked out. Just make the time controls “muggle friendly”.
1.Begonia Open
2.Doeberl Cup
3.Gold Coast Open
4.Byron Capital DDO.
Four legs (at first) of the Teams Comp. already scheduled and ready to go.
The total adult chess player pool in Australia is maybe 1000, although I doubt that number.
Probably closer to 7-800
That is adults who play in 2 or 3 weekenders per year.
Aussie population is 27,921,000.
We are attracting about 1000 adults or less out of 27,921,000 – the rest are not interested in the status quo.
Change!

perhaps the Chess Capades should come and get some phone numbers here first: https://www.chesschat.org/showthread.php?20256-Victorian-Inter-Club-Championship-2026&p=528823&viewfull=1#post528823 might be a tad more comfortable than under the bridge.
also, it sounds like a lot of bosses for the 12 teams.
