Redcliffe Chess Club – Crosstable R2 of the 2026 Viv Greenelsh Memorial played on Wed night Mar 18
Please find attached the Round 2 crosstable for the2026 Viv Greenelsh Memorial, played on Wednesday night, March 18.
Round 2 Summary:
After two rounds of the 2026 Viv Greenelsh Memorial, five players have managed to win both their games to move to 2/2; Filip Simic, Andrew Davison, David Pando, Jai Turner and Rohan Pyne. These players are closely followed by five more players on 1.5/2 in what promises to be another competitive affair at Rothwell! The tournament participation was bolstered by several players entering Round 2 after their half-point Round 1 byes, as well as a few past members coming out of the woodwork; it was great to see the likes of Michael D’Arcy and PJ Bargo return.
On board 1, top seed David Pando overcame Allan Fossey via an opening trick with the white side of a French Defence. Jai Turner is back to his winning ways after a rough patch by dispatching rising junior Nikola Maljkovic armed with his trusty London System. Probably the game of the night occured on board 3 between Filip Simic (outright winner of the 2026 Redcliffe Summer Swiss) and David Beaumont (winner of the 2025 Club Championship). The under-rated Simic navigated a complicated middlegame to develop a strong passed pawn in the endgame, and just when it looked like the pawn was unstoppable, David found some incredible defensive resources with his knight and rook which eventually liquidated the position to a Rook and pawns position. With both players playing on increment by this point, it was Filip who held his composure to land the final blow of the match! Well done, all!
