Crosstable R1-3 of the 2025 Redcliffe Allegro Championship played on Wed night September 3
Please find attached the crosstable for Rounds 1-3 of the 2025 RCC Allegro Championship played last Wednesday September 3.
In the 2025 edition of the Redcliffe Allegro Championship, a strong field of 30 players took part to battle it out for the crown of Redcliffe’s best rapid-chess player. The 15 min + 3 secs/move time control demands a hybrid skill-set of strategic planning and sharp tactical awareness under the added pressure of the clock, with many games reducing to a time-scramble in the latter stages. It also provided an opportunity for players to play 3 competitive games in a single evening.
We currently have 3 players in the lead on a perfect 3/3. Jai Turner transferred his stellar classical chess form to the shorter format in winning his first 3 games, and was joined on 3/3 by talented juniors Filip Simic and Brett Oakley, who at just 9 years of age is the second-youngest player in the field. Well done, guys!
Behind these players, we have 6 players on 2/3 and another 7 players on 1.5/3, so with 3 rounds to go next Wednesday night the tournament is still wide open! If you missed last Wednesday night but would still like to play in the tournament, we can give you 2 half-point byes for Rounds 1-3. Rounds 4-6 will commence next Wednesday night, September 10 at 8PM so please try to be at Rothwell by 7:30PM. It is great to see so many players arriving as early as 7PM to socialise and play friendly games before the competitive rounds commence!
Thank you to everyone who has paid their $2 adult entry fee OR $1 junior entry fee for players under 18 years of age!
If you still need to pay your entry fee, please bring a gold coin along next Wednesday night or Direct Deposit to the Redcliffe Chess Club Inc’s Westpac Account using your surname as the reference:

Last Wednesday, a special presentation was held for the winners of the recently concluded 2025 Norm Braybrooke Memorial. With the recent passing of RCC club stalwart Norm Braybrooke, this was the first edition of the tournament. Norm’s son, Colin, was in attendance to present trophies to Jai Turner (overall winner of the tournament with 7/7!) and best juniors Simon Yousafi (4.5/7) and James Xia (4.5/7). Colin paid tribute to Norm’s lasting legacy at the club and mentioned how proud Norm would be to see the club in such great shape. Attached are a selection of photos from this presentation.
Fast approaching on the weekend of September 27/28, Redcliffe Chess Club will be hosting the 2025 Leo Wilkinson Memorial, a 6-round 60min + 20sec ACF and QJ rated classical tournament. Please see attached flyer for full details including the many great prizes on offer! If you’re unable to attend part of the tournament but would still like to play, you may take up to two half-point byes for rounds 1-4.
