UQ Winter Rapid – 8th of August! – this weekend!
2026 UQ FIDE Winter Rapid
Onto some Fast chess with the 2026 UQ FIDE Winter Rapid. A one day, FIDE rapid, ACF quick rated and QLJD junior rated event held on the 8th of August at UQ with a minimum prize fund of $1300. Due to room limitations, we have an entry cap for this tournament so sign up fast!
*Entry cap is strictly 70*
Venue: The University of Queensland St. Lucia (exact building location TBC)
Date: Saturday August 8 from 10am to 5pm, including a lunch break after the conclusion of round 4
Rounds: 9
Open to: All players of any age, skill and Federation, except for foreign players without a FIDE ID. Foreign players without a FIDE ID number will need to obtain a FIDE id number from their National Federation and advise that number prior to their entry being accepted.
Entry Fee:
UQ chess club members: $35
Non-members: $40
GM’s/WGM’s and IM’s/WIM’s receive free entry
FM’s/WFM’s: $20
Time control: 13 minutes + 2 seconds increment from move 1

Byes: A maximum of 2 half point byes can be requested in the first 4 rounds
Minimum Prizes:
1st: $400
2nd: $250
3rd: $200
Rating group A 1st: $125 2nd: $100
Rating group B 1st: $125 2nd: $100
Unrated prize: Free entry to next UQ tournament!
Seedings and prizes will be done by the ACF quick ratings
