Crosstable R1 of the 2026 Lou Wilkinson Memorial played on Wed night Apr 29

Please find attached the Round 1 crosstable for the 2026 Lou Wilkinson Memorial, played on Wednesday night, Apr 29.

Round 1 Summary:

The first round featured one major upset result, and this occurred on board 1! Nikola Maljkovic (ACF 1247) overcame a stunning 748 rating point deficit to defeat David Pando (ACF 1995) with the black pieces. This continues Nikola’s recent run of strong form, with several good results against higher rated opponents proving that he is a dangerous opponent. Second seed Jai Turner seems to be back to his wimning ways after a rare lean patch, outclassing new member Jim Sarney, using strong positional understanding to obtain a clear advantage which he converted. David Beaumont scored a fine win against rising young talent Brett Oakley, often a challenging opponent for David. Board 4 saw club stalwarts Max Kershaw and Allan Fossey trade blows. Allan emerged the victor when the dust settled and will be looking to take down some of the top seeds as the tournament progresses. The remaining boards featured more fighting, competitive chess with the club displaying great depth of talent as 28 players tested their resolve across 14 boards of action. Well done, all!
