Crosstable R4 of the 2026 Summer Swiss played on Wed night Feb 18
Please find attached the Round 4 crosstable for the 2026 Redcliffe Summer Swiss, played on Wednesday night, February 18.
Round 4 Summary:
We have a new leader in the 2026 Redcliffe Summer Swiss! David Pando defeated Allan Fossey on board 1 to move into the sole lead on 3.5/4! David played a very solid positional game and slowly turned the screws. Allan managed to defend well and extend the game well into the night, but these efforts were to no avail as David calmly converted his endgame advantage. This win leaves David well-poised at the top of the field however with as many as 8 players trailing by only half a point (3/4) and two rounds still to play, the tournament is still wide open! Well done, David.
Jai Turner will consider himself lucky to walk away with half a point against Mark C Stokes, slyly offering a draw in a position he knew was dead lost! Mark, in severe time trouble with only 20 seconds left on the clock, decided to shake hands and walk away with the draw. He was immediately met with some rather cruel spectator observations pointing out several winning lines, but of course it is much harder to spot these in the heat of battle with mere seconds remaining on the clock! Despite not scoring the full point, Mark can be pleased with his play in this game as he capitalised on an opening mistake from Jai and slowly built a dominant position.
The upset of the year occured on board 3, with Libor Spacek overcoming an 806 rating point gulf to defeat David Beamont. David sacrificed material for what looked to be a very promising attack, hwever Libor defended well and managed to halt David’s forces by forcing an exchange of queens, leaving him with two rooks to one and an easily won endgame. Well done, Libor! Definitely the dark-horse of the tournament.
Congatulations to all the winners across the 13 boards of action!
