Crosstable R5 of the 2025 Club Championship played on Wed night November 26

Please find attached the Round 5 crosstable for the 2025 Redcliffe Club Championship, played on Wednesday night, November 26.

Round 5 Summary:

Tony Truscott is now the outright leader in the 2025 Redcliffe Club Championship! On board 1, Jai Turner suffered his first loss of the tournament, falling victim to Allan Fossey’s sharp opening preparation and tactical eye. As white, Allan thrusted his c, d, e and h pawns forward to combat Jai’s trusty Modern defence, and after sacrificing a couple of pawns, soon had great attacking chances against Jai’s king. Jai managed to defend well, and despite having a cramped position, was 3 pawns up and hoping to exchange pieces into what would be a winning endgame. Allan continued to build pressure before the game came to an abrupt conclusion when Jai missed a surprise queen check that resulted in a checkmate. You can see this game on the Redcliffe chess club website: Club Championship Games. I am hoping to add many other games soon! If you would like your game added, simply reply to this email. On board 2, Tony Truscott moved into the outright lead by defeating the rapidly improving 10-year-old Brett Oakley. Tony managed to gain a positional advantage with the white pieces, but had to be careful as Brett, tenacious as ever, created tactical complications with his well-placed rooks. Tony held his nerve and when the dust settled, he was able to convert his endgame advantage into a win. This victory leaves Tony as outright leader with the near-perfect score of 4.5/5, but with Allan Fossey and CM David Beaumont just behind him on 4/5 (and two rounds still to play), the club championship is still up for grabs! On board 3, CM David Beaumont used his wealth of experience in conducting a positional squeeze over improving member Zaichic Turner, creating threat after threat before finally cashing in to obtain a winning advantage. Please see the attachment for full Round 5 results. Congratulations, all!
