Crosstable R4 of the 2025 Club Championship played on Wed night November 19

Please find attached the Round 4 crosstable for the 2025 Redcliffe Club Championship, played on Wednesday night, November 19.

Round 4 Summary:

Board 1 featured a showdown between co-leaders Jai Turner and Tony Truscott, a potentially pivotal fixture in deciding the winner of this years’ club championship! The two didn’t disappoint, producing an exciting display of chess wherein Jai as white established a strong initiative in the opening and early middle-game. However, Tony defended stoically, finding several great resources and before long it seemed Jai’s attack had begun to run out of steam. A pawn or two ahead in material, it was now Tony who was pushing for the win, before offering a draw that was largely influenced by time trouble and the complicated nature of the position! Jai was more than happy to share the point, so with this draw Jai and Tony remain outright leaders on 3.5/4! Another terrific battle occured on board 2 between club president Mark C Stokes and long-time RCC member Allan Fossey; the two players traded blows and pieces all the way to an endgame in which Mark had two distant, well-advanced pawns to Allan’s lone rook! In mutual time trouble, both players missed chances to win this complicated game and a draw was finally reached with bare kings on the board. On board 3, CM David Beaumont was black against prodigious young talent James Xia, showing great composure in winning a close game courtesy of an extra tempo in a complicated endgame. Please see the attachment for full results of the round. With two players sharing the lead on 3.5/4 and another 3 players on 3/4, the 2025 club championship is wide open with 3 rounds left to play!
