Crosstable R6 of the 2025 Norm Braybrooke Memorial played on Wed night August 20
Please find attached the R6 crosstable of the 2025 RCC Norm Braybrooke Memorial played tonight, Wednesday August 20.
In the penultimate round of the 2025 Norm Braybrooke Memorial, the Jai Turner chess juggernaut rolled on with a clinical display of positional chess proving too much to handle for the talented youngster Simon Yousafi. With this win, Jai moves to a perfect 6/6, and with just 1 round to go is now a full point ahead, guaranteeing him at least a share of first place. Well done Jai!
Board 2 saw David Pando exhibit excellent technique in converting a single-pawn advantage over the experienced Greg Orme. David remains in outright second place with 5/6. Having already played Jai in this tournament, this leaves David well positioned to at least secure second place.
Rohan Pyne threw the proverbial kitchen sink at the gifted James Xia, sacrificing multiple pawns in a Closed Catalan in exchange for great piece activity, only for James to display the defensive resolve of a seasoned veteran before counter-attacking to ice the victory in an extremely complicated position. This game and several others from the tournament can be found at the Redcliffe Chess Club website. (https://redcliffechessclub.com.au/games-norm-braybrooke-memorial-2025/) With this Board 3 victory, James progresses to outright third place on 4.5/6. Great work James!
The under-rated Tom Weber and Braeden Levy both won their games to move to 4/6, followed by a pack of players on 3.5/6 and 3/6 proving that this is a highly-competitive tournament, with most games having no clear “favourite”; this is a sign of a strong club!
