Redcliffe Chess Club Inc Lightning results and News from Club President.
Redcliffe Chess Club Inc had a very good turnout of 30 players for our 8 round LIGHTNING on Wednesday night February 7, 2024, with each player having just 5 minutes on their clock and with no increment! It was convincingly won by Jai Turner with a picket fence, winning 8 consecutive games against Max Kershaw, Tony Weller, Nathanael Young, Max Phillips, Daniel Woodrow, James Chengyi Xia, Allan Fossey and Luke Goodwin. Congratulations Jai!
We also welcomed new players to our Club for the Lightning – Jaemin List, Colin Holloway and Isaac Takau! Colin said it was thirty years since he last visited a Chess Club and it was so good to see him again.
A big thank you to Allan Fossey for helping with the smooth running of this 8 round one night event by bringing along a printer so the results of each game could be quickly recorded and for making and bringing an easy to use sign in sheet too – Thanks a million Allan!
Next Wednesday night, February 14, we return to classical chess with R3 of our 2023 Summer Swiss, which will be both ACF and QJ rated. After the first 2 rounds of this 37 player event, only three players are on a perfect score of 2 out of 2: Michael D’Arcy, Jai Turner and Nathanael Young. But another 10 players are still right in contention with 1.5/2. Remember to be in F Block of Grace Lutheran Rothwell by 7:30pm on Wednesday night, ready for a 7:45pm start. If you need a half point bye for R3, please text Mark before 7:30pm.
