Message from Club President, Mark C Stokes re the sad passing of Bill Powell.

Hi All
Nerida Powell, Bill’s daughter, informed me today that her father, Bill Powell, passed away peacefully at home on Monday January 15.
It was unexpected, although Bill had been very ill for the last 4 months.
The funeral is on Monday January 22 at 1:30pm at Greyson and Weight at Nambour.
It will also be live streamed and a recorded copy can be viewed via the website.
Bill served 2 different terms as CAQ President and was best known for his great advertising of upcoming events – he contacted just about every Chess Club in Australia for this.
He produced a booklet of Australian Chess Contacts which was so useful for Tournament Organisers across Australia. Bill was quite proud of this booklet – it was the product of hours and hours of work by him.
His Week Enders on the Sunshine Coast in the 1990’s were famous for their strength, the fantastic number of players , the value for money dormitory accommodation and the fantastic food – Bill was also a great chef.
Bill’s lovely wife Maxine passed away last year – She supported Bill all the way in his ambitious endeavours, in the Chess World, and the non Chess World.
Bill also became President of an RSL sub branch at Coolum, renowned for attracting record numbers there too on Anzac Day each year, due once again to Bill’s wonderful publicity skills.
Bill and his family are in my wife Patti’s and my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
