Iris Wang won both the U/8 Australian Girls Blitz and Problem Solving!!

Thank you to parents who are helping me put together results from the Australian Juniors Adelaide 2024.

It took 1 hour and 41 minutes to get through the speech giving at the end, and in that time, not one SA organizer thought to get pen and paper out and write down the results!

Has anyone checked the scores in the Problem Solving. My thinking is that if you cannot remember to write down the results for an Australian Championship, maybe your math skills could do with a back up as well.

Not announcing the Problem Solving winners until the very last is a good way to avoid disputes.

I am sure it worked very well in 17th century England, but we live in a professional sport age and deserve better. For every one player at this event there are probably 4 or 5 coaches, parents, carers and admin. people who have contributed to the student’s performance. And they have a right to transparency.

To simply call out the results at the end, not write them down and not have them subject to scrutiny is farcical. If there is nothing to hide, why not release the results?

Still waiting for someone to explain to me why we need playoffs after finishing equal after a week of playing chess.

  • This is from a Federation that cannot even be bothered having a National Junior Team.
  • This is from a Federation that cannot even be bothered having one of its 10 GMs playing in its Championship.
  • This is from a Federation that cannot even be bothered having warm up games for its Olympiad Teams.

Basically it is turn up at the venue, grab a biro, who am I playing, and start playing.

  • This is from a Federation that cannot even be bothered having a National League.

And yet, and yet, we demand playoffs because we are so precise????

Why not send two kids home to two different states basking in glory?

Seriously?
