2024 Queensland Reserves and Tin Cup

Gardiner Chess, on behalf of the Chess Association of Queensland are delighted to be able to share with everyone the details of the 2024 Queensland Reserves and Tin Cup.

Last year this event had a wonderful turnout and we look forward to that happening once again this year!

A reminder that all players must be members of the CAQ in order to take part in this event. Players must also have a FIDE ID, or be Australian Citizens or permanent residents prior to entering the event.

Key Information:

  • When: February 24th and 25th
  • Where: Griffith University Student Guild Bar Function Centre, Parklands Drive, Southport
  • Cost: $80.00 prior to 11th Feb, $90.00 prior to 18th Feb, and $100 after. No entries taken on the day.
  • Saturday: Round 1 @ 9.30am, Round 2 @ 12.45pm, Round 3: @ 4.00pm
  • Sunday: Round 4 @ 9.00am, Round 5 @ 12.15pm, Round 6 @ 3.30pm
  • Time Control: 60 minutes + 30 seconds per move
  • Prizes: 1st – $700.00, 2nd – $400.00, 3rd – $250.00 + 4 ratings groups of $150.00 each.

Unless a bye has been requested in writing, players will be paired for round 1. In the case of a no show, the player will be forfeited.

Additional Information:

  • Players will be required to record their moves throughout their games.
  • Food can be sourced from Smith Collective nearby, or from the GCUH food court across the road.
  • Supervision of junior players outside of the playing hall and balcony area is the responsibility of parents.

  • Water will be available on site during the event.
  • Parking is available on the Griffith University grounds – please follow signage for details. Parking is also available at the GCUH public car park (although is more expensive).
  • Public transport is on the doorstep of the venue with both buses and light rail linking directly.
  • Winner gains direct entry to 2024 Queensland Championships
