News from RCC Inc. Club President, Mark C Stokes

The results of our fun Teams Chess Night held on Wednesday night November 1 can be viewed now on the City of Redcliffe Chess Club Inc Website : https://redcliffechessclub.com.au  Congratulations to the Logan City/UQ Team for winning the night by a mere half a point from the Redcliffe Chess Club’s Presidents Team. I know captain Phil Bennet went home a happy man.
It was great to see some former Redcliffe Members like Tom Maguire, Lachlan Wang and Nathanael Young join in too. A big thank you to all the visiting players from Bullwinkle, Logan, Brisbane and UQ – you made it into a great night where every round was keenly contested for each and every player. David Beaumont stated after the event that he really loved it because every game was a tough battle.
Kerry Corker deserves a big thank you from all of us for creating this event in the first place and running it so each board 1 played another board 1 in each round, each board 2 played another board 2 in each round, etc etc.  We will definitely run more of these fun nights in 2024. Thanks a million Kerry!
Next week, on Wednesday night November 8, we have another FREE night of Chess – We are having our Club Championship Warm Up Game at the FIDE time control of 60 minutes each plus 30 seconds a move if both players agree and you will get to play the person rated next to you on the current FIDE rating list in most cases, so it should be a quite competitive warm up game. If you do not have a FIDE rating yet, we will use your ACF if you have one but all players will get a game, whether they are rated or unrated.
On Wednesday night November 15, the FIDE rated 5 round (accelerated) 2023 City of Redcliffe Chess Club Inc Club Championship begins, with a beautiful Chess Set as the prize for both the winner of this event and for the Reserves Winner. The FIDE rated Club Championship will be played at the FIDE time control of 60 minutes each plus 30 seconds a move. The Reserves Division will be run at 60 minutes plus 20 seconds Or 30 minutes plus 30 seconds.
It is now time to enter the 2023 Redcliffe Chess Club Championship and 2023 Redcliffe Chess Club Reserves Championship: Entry fees are the same for both events. We will work out who plays in what event, the Championship or the Reserves, once entries close at 7:30pm on Wednesday night November 15. Both events have beautiful Chess Sets as the first prize!
