2023 St Lucia Winter Challenge

The University of Queensland Chess Club will this weekend be hosting the 2023 St Lucia Winter Challenge! The event is a FIDE-rated classical tournament with a high rating floor, providing a valuable opportunity for strong players to test their mettle against similarly strong opposition for the duration of the weekend competition. Players rated 1700 FIDE or higher are invited to sign up for a great weekend of chess!

The event will be held at the St Lucia campus of the University of Queensland, within the Walter Harrison Law Library. Full details for the competition are below:

  • Dates: 22-23 July 2023
  • Venue: Room 01-W458, Forgan Smith Building, University of Queensland, St Lucia
  • Format: FIDE Dutch Swiss, six rounds
  • Time Control: 60+30 (Fischer)
  • Eligibility: FIDE standard rating between 1700 and 2399 (limited exceptions)
  • Ratings: Rated in FIDE standard, ACF and QJ lists
  • Chief Arbiter: NA Maximilian Windsor
  • Entry Fee: $35

Prizes (shared):
1st Place: $100
1st U2000 FIDE: $70
