Australian Junior Chess Team, behold, I now give you – The Angry Penguins!

Our motto:

If General McClellan does not want to use the army, I would like to borrow it for a time.”

Abraham Lincoln

“The Angry Penguins” have landed and hope to ruffle a few feathers while they are here.

  • See OzJuniorsFIDE on the front page for excel file.

At the moment I have 236 FIDE Rated Australian Juniors on my list.

Qld. has about 460 FIDE Rated players in total. I am guessing about 150 of those are Juniors.

That leaves about 310 adults on the list.

About 30 or 40 of these adults still play several Qld. events (excluding club chess) through the year.

The other 270 don’t play OTB anymore.

How many FIDE Rated Juniors in Australia?

You would have to ask the ACF Inc. My rough guess is 350 – 400.

Over the next couple of months I will try to collect the names of all FIDE Rated Juniors in Australia.

The number beside your name is just a very rough guide at the moment.

It will become more accurate as the months go on.

I think the Top 50 in Australia is fairly accurate.

Eventually I will pick up on spelling errors and omissions.

Please feel free to send me names of FIDE Rated Australian Juniors not included.

Of course, if you wish your name taken from the list, please contact me and it shall be done.

What is the aim of The Angry Penguins?

To fill our first 2700+ ave. Olympiad Team of course. How? By actually playing world-wide as a Team and being trained as a Team.

The adult team will remain nameless to continue the brilliant marketing strategy that has reaped so many rewards so far.

Selection for “The Angry Penguins”?

Once online “Friendlies” have been arranged, players in the Top 15 FIDE rated will have to contact the organizers to alert them to their availability status.

Keep reading the RCC Inc. News and you will remain informed of opportunities to play.

Will you be representing your country?

That is up to the ACF Inc.

What should we call the State Teams?

Give it a name! As long as it is not taken or rude or infringes upon existing team names.

Are Parents and Juniors interested in being a part of a State or National Team?

Only you can answer that.

What is the RCC Inc. angle in all of this?

Qld. has 2 people in the National Junior Top 15 at the moment.

We will now start working on getting more of our RCC Inc. Juniors into that select group.

  • A player’s name in red signifies that they play for Redcliffe Chess Club Inc.
