With just a month to go until the 2023 Doeberl Cup I’d thought I’d get the ball rolling with a thread on this year’s event.

We’ve got over 200 players already entered this year, including 4 GMs: Hrant Melkumyan (ARM), Temur Kuybokarov (AUS), Samy Shoker (EGY) and GM Daniel Fernandez (AUS). With the Oceania Youth event directly after Doeberl, and the record crowds showing up for Begonia this weekend it looks like we may break the 2021 player record.

The 2023 tournament has been changed slightly, with the introduction of a fifth division called the “Mini” open to players under 1500. This has led to rating requirements for other divisions being shuffled, which will hopefully lead to the removal of potential accelerated pairings with too many players in the same division, as well as slightly improving the chance of player norms being awarded in the Premier.
