RCC Championships 2022 results. All Hail Tyson, the new Club Champion!
In a close finish to the 2022 Redcliffe Chess Club Championship, Tyson Walker defeated Jai Turner on board 1 in R7 to take the outright lead. Both Tyson and Jai got a position they had looked at after 18 moves in a Catalan. Here Jai won a pawn, but it was a pawn Tyson was happy for Jai to win, as he got considerable pressure for the pawn. Tyson went on to win a piece and soon after the game. Tyson then had to wait for the result of the board 2 clash between Filip Simic and Mark C Stokes. If Filip won, Tyson and Filip would be co-champions. This looked quite likely until Filip missed a winning move in time trouble and soon after Mark C Stokes was happy to take Filip’s draw offer, meaning Tyson was the outright winner and Redcliffe Chess Club Champion for 2022 with a score of 5.5/7! Congratulations Tyson! Jai Turner and Filip Simic were close behind on 5 points, sharing 2nd place, whilst 4th place overall with 4.5/7 was shared by Tony Weller, Allan Fossey and the quickly improving Junior Nikola Maljkovic. We will be giving out trophies etc to all the winners this coming Wednesday night.
