What a fantastic tournament the Darling Downs Open was on the weekend of May 21 and 22, with 94 players, smashing the previous record in the mid 70’s! Samantha Buckley, Les Lord and Ross Mills were all thrilled with the excellent turnout and equally happy at the end of the event with how well it all went. David Esmonde did yet another superb job as Arbiter of such a big field and he also set up and transmitted the top 4 boards virtually live at https://livechess.aunz.net

Congratulations to IM Brodie McClymont for another picket fence victory with 6/6, just like he did in Mackay the previous weekend! He was impressed with the play of Juniors like Micah Young and he was very pleased with his 20 move final round win over the ever competitive IM Stephen Solomon. This game is worth a look. Aiden Brady had another top event and took out 2nd place and Benjamin Leong did very too to take out 3rd place.

Well done once again to all involved with the organization and successful running of the 2022 Darling Downs Open – I am already eagerly looking forward to the 2023 Darling Downs Open!
