Mackay Open 2022 Report by RCC President, Mark C. Stokes.

All involved with the organizing and running of the 2022 Mackay Open on May 14 and May 15 should take a bow – it was a very well run event to play in and a great tournament experience for all players. Ross MacDonald, Ronald Bourke and Dale Noak should feel very happy in particular and Arbiter Lee Whalley did yet another outstanding job. The Senior Citizens Hall was a superb venue for the event – spacious for the players and comfortable as well. With great support from Tournament Sponsors CMR Recycling, Black Cat Civil and Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, a wonderful prize fund was on offer for players of all levels.

IM Brodie McClymont showed his class throughout the event to win the 2022 Mackay Open and the first prize of $1750 with a perfect 6 out of 6 – BUT Tony Weller gave him a big scare in the final round and Tony may well have had a winning position if he had found the best continuation in a very interesting position. It was certainly a thrilling game for all the spectators to watch.

John Buciu, Mark C Stokes and Lachlan Wang all shared the second, third and fourth prizemoney with 4.5/6 and were all very happy with their prizemoney too.

Thank you once again Ross, Ronnie and Dale for putting on such a top event – I am already looking forward to the 2023 Mackay Open.
