Hybrid Lectures and Hybrid Players

Hybrid Lectures – what do you need?

1 Chess Club full of paying punters.

1 Demo Board hanging against the wall.

1 human mover of pieces (Fred) on the Demo board.

1 laptop with the camera focused on the Demo Board, connected to Guest Speaker.

1 Guest Speaker sitting at home in their jammies watching the Demo Board on their laptop with a microphone at hand and a bucket of ice cream close by.

The Lecture begins, the Guest Speaker calls out a few moves and Fred moves the pieces. Someone in the audience calls out a question. The  Guest Speaker calls out the variation and Fred moves the pieces, keeping up with the variation as called by the Guest Speaker.

And thus, the Hybrid Lecture is born.

You can fly them in if you like, you can pick them up from the airport, you can pay for their accommodation etc. Or you can just pay them their Lecture Fee. It’s up to you.

Hybrid Players – what do you need?

A club lightning or blitz event. Perhaps a slower event over several weeks. It all works.

A laptop with the camera focused on Board 1.

Fred is wearing an earpiece connected to the Guest Player via the laptop.

Fred and the Guest Player’s opponent is playing on an ordinary chess board with an ordinary chess clock.

Fred’s earpiece connects him to the Guest Player, and the game is played per usual.

The only difference is that your chess club has just had a top GM from overseas playing in your club tournament. No flat screen playing, everything as usual.

You can fly them in if you like, you can pick them up from the airport, you can pay for their accommodation etc. Or you can just pay them their Appearance  Fee. It’s up to you.
