Interview with Capablanca and Dr. Euwe! + RCC News

Go to YouTube and search “Interview with Capablanca and Dr. Euwe”. Possibly the only time Capa is on video speaking about chess. He and Dr Euwe talk about the forthcoming match between Alekhine and Euwe.

RCC August Swiss has concluded with Tom Maguire 1st on 6/6 and Allan Fossey on 5/6. Not sure who came third, perhaps Tony Weller.

About 5 new or returning players turned up last night. Looking good for our Club Champs. starting soon.

Next week a blitz tourney with 3mins plus increment for the game. Games will be Qld Junior rated only.

Entries are filling quickly for the Leo Wilkinson Memorial. Contact Mark Stokes or enter on our front page.

We need your ideas for next year’s calendar so that we can finalise it at our RCC AGM in December. Better to throw ideas around now so that we can go into the AGM with a clear picture of what our players want.

I have put forward the idea of a “Six-Pack” event for early next year. It will be played on regular Wednesday club nights. The idea is to have a top section with either 4 or 6 players in a round robin. The rest will play in a Swiss as usual. One or two games can be played per night and the event will be ACF and Qld.Junior rated as usual. I will be talking to the top players at the Leo Wilkinson Memorial and putting forward the idea. If we go ahead with the first six-pack it will have a 1st prize of $100 which I will underwrite.
In the long run I would like to see 3 or 4 of these events running at different clubs throughout SEQ. The idea is to build up the prizemoney and hopefully get a bit of a circuit going for our stronger players. A circuit without airfares, accomodation, taxi and meal expenses. Also our top juniors would be encouraged to play when they are ready for a strong round-robin.
Please send any ideas for our RCC AGM to me at kerrycorker@yahoo.com.au and I will post them.
