2019 Annual General Meeting of the Redcliffe Chess Club.

The AGM of the club was held on Wednesday 18th December, 2019 in the club rooms at the Grace College school building (F block).

15 Club members were present, with the meeting being chaired by Mark Stokes (Club President and CAQ State President). Also in attendance were 12 members of the Bullwinkle Chess Club who were present to contest the inter-club match later that night.

During the President’s annual report the following points were noted:

. It has been an extremely busy year for the club, with our club organising, running and underwriting numerous weekend tournaments – such included the Queensland teams chess day; Leo Wilkinson Memorial; 54th Peninsula Open; Wendy Terry Memorial; March Open and the Christmas Swiss. The club was able to subsidised the entry fees of club members into these tournaments.

. The club continues to conduct Wednesday night club events – which are all rated. The night playing fees remains at $3 for seniors and $1 for juniors – perhaps the cheapest club fees in the State.

. A highlight of this year was to have two of our club members Brodie McClymont and Tom Maguire chasing GM and IM norms respectively. All in the club wished Brodie and Tom every success in securing these norms. The club was also in a position to provide assistance to both players in travelling to these events.

. The club has purchased a new computer and printer.

. The club is in a very healthy financial position, with just over $10k in the bank. This enables the club to underwrite their annual major weekend tournaments, as well promote the club and game as widely as possible.

. The emerging juniors in the club continue to impress. Filip Simic; Jai Turner and Nikola have all made remarkable improvements over the past 12 months. Nikola has only been playing for less than a year yet his skills at the game have improved dramatically.

. In 2020 the President hopes to not only run the normal weekend tournaments, but to also initiate several one day FIDE rated rapid tournaments at the Redcliffe Bridge Club.

. Tonight sees the last club event for 2019 and the first night back in 2020 will be Wednesday night 29th January.

. Following this presentation, all positions were declared vacant and basically remain unchanged except for the position of treasurer which has been taken up by Tony Weller.

At the conclusion of the AGM there was a vote of thanks extended to Mark Stokes in formally acknowledging his ongoing commitment to the club during 2019.
