2019 Lou Wilkinson Memorial Tournament

The recent 2019 Lou Wilkinson memorial tournament held over 6 rounds at a time control of 60 minutes plus a 20 second per move increment finished on Wednesday 24th July, 2019.

24 players contested this prestigious club event, with the winners being:

1st Tom Maguire on 5 1/2 out of 6. Tom continues his domination of local club events with his impressive knowledge of openings and determination to extract every advantage possible from all of his games. Tom is now coaching several local juniors, all of whom have demonstrated considerable improvement under his guidance.

=2nd were Tyson Walker; Victor Davidovici and Cameron De Vere.

Best under 1500 was Mark Stokes.

Best junior was Filip Simic.

During the presentations, Club President Mark Stokes thanked all for their participation in this tournament which continues the recognition of the late Lou Wilkinson who contributed much to the development of the Redcliffe Chess Club. President Stokes also stated that the club is very proud of the outstanding results of several members in recent state wide tournaments, highlighting Filip Simic being crowned the 2019 under 12 Queensland Chess Champion; Peter-John Bargo winning the 2019 Gold Coast Open’s minor section (5 1/2 out of 6 against a strong field) and Tom finishing outright 5th in the 2019 Gold Coast premier event – one of the strongest events held in Queensland of recent times.
