2018 Redcliffe Chess Club Championship Round 7 Report

On Wednesday night December 12, 2018 Tom Maguire won the Redcliffe Chess Club Championship, winning it outright for the first time. Tom won six games and drew one to finish on the fine score of 6.5 out of 7. He defeated PJ Bargo, Tony McRoberts, Mark C Stokes, Aiden Brady, Cameron de Vere and Craig Stewart and drew with Allan Fossey. Tom thoroughly deserved his victory.

Allan Fossey was also undefeated, but was held to two draws – by Tom Maguire and Aiden Brady. Allan took out second place all by himself with the very good score of 6 out of 7.

In outright third place was the surprise packet of the tournament, 17 year old Aiden Brady, rated 755. Aiden has a most promising future and he should be very pleased with his overall result. It was a well contested tournament and most enjoyable to play in, with 26 different players playing at least one round.

Redcliffe Chess Club will close after the AGM and match against Bullwinkle on Wednesday night December 19 and will re-open with the six round Summer Swiss at 7:30pm on Wednesday night January 16, 2019.
